When a local tax issue starts hitting the national press, there are issues. From The Washington Times:
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The state has approved property valuations for Douglas County that were adjusted after an initial outcry.Assessor/Register of Deeds Diane Battiato (bah-tee-AH’-toh) was flooded with complaints since preliminary evaluations for 2017 were posted in January. She explained that her office was catching up with a hot real estate market and with properties that had not been reassessed in years.
But last month she submitted lowered figures to the state Tax Equalization and Review Commission, aiming at a median value of 93 percent of market value, within the state-required 92 to 100 percent. The Omaha World-Herald (http://bit.ly/2qo3I9s ) reports that the commission has approved the figures, which property owners can still protest after they receive their notices from the county. The notices must be mailed on or before June 1.___Information from: Omaha World-Herald, http://www.omaha.com
