OMAHA SHOUT OUT TO GRAND ISLAND BUSINESS! In a recent Omaha World Herald (Omaha.com) editorial, Grand Island’s Nova Tech was listed as one of Nebraska’s important bioscience companies. The editorial touted the bioscience sector as an emerging economic powerhouse for Nebraska as its "economic benefits are felt in communities across the state." The editorial points out that Nebraska is home to just over 1,000 bioscience businesses, employing almost 16,000 people, with a multiplier effect that supports a total of around 88,000 Nebraska jobs. The average annual salary at a Nebraska bioscience company is $61,701, compared with $40,640 for the state's overall private sector. Way to go, Gloria, Teresa, Gary and team!
GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. The unemployment rate for July was 3.5%, up from June’s 3.4%. There were 44,957 people in the labor force with 43,369 employed and 1,588 unemployed. Nebraska’s unemployment rate for July was 3.1%; the national rate was 4.9%. Grand Island’s unemployment rate in July 2015 was 5.8%.
The Grand Island Chamber does an excellent job with these updates. The real estate explosion in central Nebraska has been significant and we are fortunate to have real estate development legal work in this area. And we are always looking for more. - Jerry Slusky, attorney at Smith Slusky Law
