GROWING THE STATE’S ECONOMY

DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Candidates for Nebraska’s next Director of Economic Development have been narrowed to four.

The candidates are:

  • Stephen Frayser, currently the executive director of the Science, Technology and Advanced Research Park at Texas State University and former interim director of technology transfer at UNL and president of the Nebraska Technology Park
  • Christopher J. McGowan, president of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and Foundation
  • Brenda L. Hicks-Sorenson, vice president for economic and community development at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation 
  • Martin K. Vanags, executive director of the Indianapolis Chamber

In December, a search firm representative met with the Grand Island Chamber to discuss the role of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development in growing business in central Nebraska and the expectations for the new director.

UNICAMERAL IN SESSION

Over 150 bills were introduced in the first three days of the 2015 Legislative session.

We will be reviewing all legislation that has an impact (positive or negative) on business, including:

* LB20, Change the income tax exemptions for social security benefits and military retirement benefits
* LB54, Change provisions relating to post secondary education statewide transfer-of-credit policies
* LB69, Provide an income tax credit for corporate income taxes paid
* LB71, Adopt the Ag Property Tax Credit Act
